Experience is the best teacher, and with his experience an Ocean View resident is helping others find solutions to their challenges.

Earl Mentor, a poet and a certified life coach, says that through his experiences, he is helping his community to put their best foot forward and know that their challenges are not permanent.

Mentor will be launching his book titled Cape Flats Karma – Biography of a Coloured Seed (BOCS) at the Chrysalis Academy in Tokai on Tuesday 4 December at 19:00.

He says he is launching his book on this day because it is his birthday and the launch has a spiritual meaning.

“There are special reasons why I decided to launch my book on this day. Among those reasons are that this book launch is something I have always wanted to do and it signifies a new phase in my life – transformation. It is a journey that I will be taking myself and taking those who read the book with me. In the book I use my knowledge and experiences to come up with solutions that affect a lot of people of colour,” he says.

Being a life coach, he says this is not just a book launch but a seminar as well. “We will talk about our challenges, our drawbacks and self-hate. Some people think because of where they come from nothing good will ever come out of them, but I’m here to tell them that you can rise above every challenge. The book highlights challenges and gives solutions. These are my personal experiences and the knowledge I have gathered working with people. Through the work I have done I have realised that because of what we have been through or where we come from we have put limits on ourselves which should not be the case,” says Mentor.

The book of 200 pages is not just a normal book but it comes with a worksheet as well. “I talk about the problems and solutions and the reader gets to do some work and write their solutions as well. This is unconventional and I want my readers to get into a journey where they realise their self-worth, work on their problems and come out with solutions. As people of colour we have gone through a lot and some of the things that we have been through have left us bruised. However, this is not permanent, hence the book and me offering some of the solutions,” he says.

Mentor is excited about the book launch and says it will change the mindsets of a lot of people. “This is a dream come true. A lot of people feel there is no light or hope but I’m here to change the narrative and bring a positive impact. I have no doubt that this book will set the bar and change your life for good,” he says.
