There has been an outcry from residents in the Beacon Valley and Eastridge communities following the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was shot and killed on Thursday.

The Beacon Hill High School learner was shot while playing soccer with friends.

Police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams says they suspect the shooting to be gang related and are investigating a case of murder.

He says: “On Thursday at 19:00, Mitchell’s Plain police received a complaint of a shooting in Beacon Valley. On arrival, police saw a boy lying on the pavement. The deceased had been shot in the face and back of the head.”

Information at the scene indicated the youngster had been playing soccer with friends when he was shot at by unknown gunmen.

Residents confirm the victim was not affiliated to any gangs.

It is believed he was targeted to join a gang but denied the requests. Speculation is that this was the motive for his killing.

The boy is described as a quiet, avid soccer player.

A prayer meeting was also held for the boy on Saturday 21 April.

No-one has been arrested as yet. Police are investigating a case of murder.

V Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Monolitho Haywood, on 082 777 8076.
