Police arrested a 27-year-old man for attempted murder after an eight-year-old boy was shot in Manenberg on Wednesday.

According to Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett, the man was arrested after he and other members of a local gang fired several random shots toward rival gang territory, hitting the eight-year-old boy in the left leg.

The 27-year-old man was identified by police officers patrolling the area.

“As the suspect saw the police he ran with the firearm. The officers cornered him but could not find the firearm. The eight-year-old was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. The 27-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder and will be charged. Community members need to stand up and report crime to stop gang violence,” says Bennett.
