Boys ‘assault’ 12-year-old

Two boys at a primary school in the Lentegeur policing precinct could face criminal charges following an alleged incident of sexual assault.

Police confirm two Grade 7 boys have been accused of sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl.

The boys are aged 12 and 13.

“On Friday 5 February the mother of the girl came to report the case. She explains the boys were playing with their genitals next to her and told her to sit on their laps,” says Sergeant Cathy Meyer, police spokesperson.

One of the boys then allegedly threatened the girl with a knife, saying “he would get her after school”.

Nothing happened, but the case was registered at the school.

Police are now planning interventions at the school and several others in the precinct.

The boys were called before a joint meeting and suspended for five days.

“The officers have already begun intervention and they are undergoing counselling,” says Meyer.

This is not the first case, police confirm.

Intervention at the school had already taken place in a meeting held on Friday 29 January.
