Golden United Football Club hosted their annual presentation at the Portlands Sports Facility on Saturday 23 November.

Various honours were awarded to the players that stood out this year in the club in all divisions, representing Golden United in the Mitchell’s Plain Local Football Association (MPLFA) in 2019 season.

The club was established in 2006 by Phoobhalen Naidoo, Faizel Mitchell and a few Golden Arrow bus drivers

Since its inception, the club has grown significantly, with 145 registered players in the 2019 season.

The players represent the club in u.8, u.10, u.12, u.14, u.16 and u.18 age categories with a second senior team, super league team and an o.40 team.

“The reason why we host these presentations, is to recognise players that stood out for the season, players that showed commitment, dedication, wanting to be the best,” says Shane Links, club secretary.

“From the executive members it is just to say thank you for all their hard work and the time they put in for the club.

“A presentation should not be about favouritism when awards are being given. Just because this is my child, I’m the secretary therefore my child must be recognized as a player. No, it is about respecting football, respecting the club and for the love of the game.”

Players, coaches and managers are welcome to join the team in the new season next year.

Should players belong to another club, a clearance certificate from the previous club must also be presented on registration with Golden United.
