Residents from across the city made their way to the Venue in Imam Haroon Road in Lansdowne on Tuesday evening to participate in a home business development workshop.

The informative programme highlighted various issues of the business industry, says event organiser Moeshfieka Botha.

The workshop dealt specifically with issues of developing an own business, alternative methods of advertising, issues of the pop-up market, rights of vendors and customers and the Consumer Protection Act. It included legal, health and safety issues, she explains.

“I am very glad that the workshop was very well received. Initially, I expected 30 people, as that was my target. In thehour before the workshop 11 people cancelled. I eventually ended up with 45 people who attended,” she says.

“Lots of insight was gained and I promise that the follow-up workshops will be even more informative and helpful to small and home businesses.”

Local businesswoman Zaahida Ackerdien says: “This was an amazing initiative by Botha and it created a better mindset of positive change in small businesses and communities. When we realise that we need to move from desperation to being passionate about our business, like guest speakers mentioned at the workshop, then we will definitely grow our brand,” she says.

“Also like Botha said: Promote your brand more and build your brand correctly. Don’t neglect issues like costing and profit, which are very important in business. Be disciplined and always remain professional about your brand.

“I think we need another workshop like this to create growth and to find possible solutions to overcome any issues.”
