Members of the newly established Apex Learning Levels (ALL) organisation are working to ensure local youth are kept busy with activities throughout the year.

Organisation spokesperson Shaun Warner says this season’s programmes are being held in partnership with the City of Cape Town’s sports and recreation department and Ottery Library.

“It is imperative for the community to work together. In the end we want our kids to come together in a way the older folks could not. Remember, in Ottery there is still a huge rift left by gangs in the past. We as an organisation can only endeavour to teach the children a better way,” he says.

“The kids benefit from these outings educationally and holistically, as we don’t only teach curriculum, but also life skills and respect. We’ve been out to Clinical Dynamics for a first-aid course, we have a monthly sleepover where we promote interaction between children of Ottery A and Ottery B, we have been to the nature reserve in Zeekoevlei and have regular outings to the League of the Friends of the Blind and the local fire station.”

Warner says his team has been extremely active and looks forward to a bumper holiday programme and productive year next year. Locals are urged to join the organisation to strengthen beneficial programmes in Ottery.
