A suspect involved in a police chase through Marina Da Gama on Saturday 18 February has died.

According to a source, the suspect was part of a group of burglars who were being chased by police and allegedly rammed a police vehicle.

Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Knapp, says the chase resulted in an accident on Sunrise Boulevard at 17:15 on Saturday.

He says a suspicious red Mercedes Benz was pursued by a local security company after it was allegedly involved in a house break-in on Marina da Gama.

During the chase the vehicle collided with a police vehicle from Ocean View Police Station injuring five police officers.

Knapp says one of the occupants of the Mercedes died on the scene and three others were seriously injured.

He says the five police officers were treated at various hospitals for their injuries, while the three injured suspects were arrested. Knapp also confirmed that the Mercedes was found to have been stolen in Claremont.
