Programmes at the Vrygrond Community Centre have been put on hold after a burglary at the centre last Tuesday.

The centre runs programmes to prepare job seekers for the business world and a computer lab where residents are helped with their CVs and internet access. The centre is also used for children’s art and drama.

These programmes have been postponed until investigations are completed.

It is alleged that computers, microwaves and fridges were stolen at the centre.

Nonkosi Fodo, secretary of the Vrygrond Community Development Forum, says some programmes have been affected.

“We can’t do some of the classes because police are still busy. Computers in the reception area were stolen, making it difficult to work.

“It is not clear yet when we will be allowed to operate fully again but those who make use of the centre can really feel the pinch.”

Muizenberg police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp says: “A case of housebreaking and theft has been opened for investigation. No arrests have been made.”

Anyone with information on the incident should call the investigating officer, detective Constable Thobani Plaatjie, on 021 787 9000/14/15.
