A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a well known Westridge businessman last week.

Just after 08:00 on Thursday, Calvin Goliath, affectionatley known as Kabollie, owner of Premium Sports Bar in Avocado Way, was shot in front of the pub.

Some neighbours recall hearing what sounded like gunfire around the time.

This was confirmed as news of the shooting spread.

It was business as usual as Goliath visited the bar to open the liquor store as he did everyday.

It is believed a car drove by the bar and passengers opened fire on an unsuspecting Goliath.

He was found at the pub.

It is alleged a neighbour, who had heard the gunshots, returned fire, but the assailants managed to escape.

Police confirm the incident.

Officers were on scene following the shooting.

“Police arrived and found a 64-year-old man laying on his back with one fatal wound in his stomach,” says police spokesperson Constable Nozuko Makwayiba.

“Police received information that two unknown suspicious men pulled the victim out of his vehicle and searched him and shot him, they thereafter fled the scene in a red Golf,” says Makwayiba.

On Friday at 20:00, police arrested A 37-year-old man in connection with Goliath’s murder.

He appeared in court yesterday (Monday 23 May) at the Mitchell’s Plain reginal court on a charge of murder.

It is alleged that theft was the motive for the shooting, however the exact cause is under investigation and was not confirmed.

Goliath’s son, William Goliath, thanked the community for their support in this time of bereavement.

V A prayer meeting will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 19:00 at the Christ the Redeemer parish in Westridge.
The funeral will be held at the same church on Saturday 28 May at 08:30.
