Bust on drugs sold to kids

2016-05-24 06:00

A 29- year-old man was arrested after an undercover operation following complaints about drugs being sold to pupils in Plumstead.

Two other people where brought in for questioning.

An application, made to the prosecuting authority for an undercover trap operation, was approved and executed at 12:00 on Friday leading to the arrest of the suspect.

This followed numerous complaints from the Diep River community and neighbourhood watches. The Diep River Police, under the leadership of Warrant Officer Keith Chandler, held the operation in the area of the complaints.

It was observed that school children, in school uniform, were buying drugs at a car wash or petrol station in Plumstead near the school. Police sent in an undercover officer to buy narcotics and the suspect sold them to the officer.

The police then seized dagga.

More investigation concerning children buying drugs is underway, Chandler say.

Chandler says that the car wash and petrol station is not linked to the incidents of drugs being sold to pupils.

The business was “very helpful in the investigation”, he adds.

The suspect appeared at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday) on charges of drug trafficking.
