Residents were spoiled with an evening of talent and community building at a carols by candlelight event held at the Beacon Valley Community Centre on Wednesday.

Hundreds of residents attended the event that aimed to build community and share local talents.

There was a DJ, live music, spiritual dancing and a few spot prizes for volunteers who told jokes, sang or danced on stage.

There was also a candle ceremony for all those who had lost their lives in recent weeks and throughout the year.

“It was a tough year for the ward,” said ward 79 councillor Solomon Philander.

“We also want to honour our fathers and mothers. It is because of you that we are standing here. So much happened this year – kids that got hurt, families that lost someone.

“We are still here through the grace of God.”

He also thanked the walking bus for keeping the children safe and added that community workers keep him doing what he must for the community.
