Battswood Football Club continues its 90th anniversary celebrations with a Theme Party to be held on Saturday 31 August.The event, which hopes to attract 500 to 600 people, will take place at Wittebome Civic, Rosmead Avenue, and partygoers can dress up in any style, era or theme they choose. Alan Donough, who has been a member of the club for nearly 48 years, said the Theme Party was an opportunity for friends and supporters of the club to share in its rich history.“We encourage members of the public to acknowledge Battswood Football Club’s history, commitment and sacrifices during the anti-apartheid years by joining us for the Theme Party,” he said. DJ Catt will be spinning all the right numbers so make sure to come wearing your dancing shoes.The doors will open at 19:00 and guests can bring their own drinks and platters. The event follows hot on the heels of the football club’s 90th anniversary Gala Dinner held on Saturday 27 July at the Banquet Hall, Cape Town Civic Centre. A total of 180 guests were treated to a three-course dinner while multiple speakers reflected on the club’s history and discussed the way forward.The football club has a rich history which first started in 1929 when it was formed by the teachers and students of Battswood Training College.The club has since enjoyed success in various competitions both locally and nationally, proudly laying claim to having had players like Bevan Fransman, Brendon Augustine and Roger Links represent the country as part of the South African national team in the past.
