Zita Chee Mee (63) has been working at perfecting her home garden for the past 25 years and annually commemorates National Garden Day annually.

This year, her friends and family once again gathered at her home to see the flowers, succulents, indigenous plants, vegetables, trees and herbs in their rightful place in her lush and colourful garden.

The garden stretches from her front yard and takes up most of her backyard too.

“I grew up like this – always working in a garden – and I really have a passion for it,” she says.

Her garden is filled rocks from different countries, coupled with recycled goods and trinkets and attracts several different species of birds and other wildlife.

Chee Mee held the celebration on Sunday 14 October.

Chee Mee says her friend also brought along pink earings to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month.

National Garden Day is a day for gardeners to celebrate their gardens, as recent research has shown people spend less time relaxing in their gardens than gardening.
