Sportsmen and women from the Fish Hoek area will be celebrated during a night to-remember event to be held at Clovelly Country Club on Tuesday 20 November. The local Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope and the Fish Hoek 100 and Beyond Committee are bringing together the “sporting legends” who Fish Hoek has produced, nurtured and enjoyed watching in action over the years. Two cricketing greats, Robin Jackman and Trevor Quirk, will be leading the evening’s events and the organisers say they want to celebrate the contributions of the area’s sporting legends. The event is expected to start at 18:00.Bev Frieslich, secretary of Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope, says they will be celebrating local talent. “The Fish Hoek centennial in 2018 provides the ideal opportunity for us to look back and honour people who have significantly contributed to our local community. Local ‘legends’ who have achieved provincial or national colours, or been involved in sport from a coaching, commentating or managing point of view in all sporting activities are invited. It will be a walk down memory lane as we look at what sport has to offer for our people and the community,” she says. The event falls on the day legendary local golfer, Bobby Locke, was born. “He would have shared his 101st birthday in this milestone year, which raised the exciting idea for us to identify and recognise other sportsmen and women from the valley and beyond who have made their mark,” she says.
