Councillors Eddie Andrews and Elton Jansen hosted their annual Women’s Day event for 250 women last week.

Each year different women across sectors are honoured during the auspicious Women’s Month. This year the event honoured women in the non-profit sector. The women had the opportunity to network, be empowered by various guest speakers and share the challenges faced and the successes experienced while running an non-profit organisation and passionately working for their community. The women, all from various organisations servicing the Mitchell’s Plain and Strandfontein areas, were beautifully dressed – with a mask to crown their attire – and treated to a three-course meal and live entertainement by Major 7. The aim of the evening was to build capacity and empower, as working in this sector is known to be very taxing as the non-proft climate has shifted, with funding, staff and resource challenges at the top of list.
