The parents of a six-year-old boy hospitalised after a homemade acid bomb exploded in his face say they have lain charges against his alleged attacker at Grassy Park Police Station.

The Grade 1 learner from New Horizons in Pelican Park is still receiving treatment at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for the injuries to his face, chest and hands he got last week (“Boy hurt by acid bomb”, People’s Post, 14 November).

Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says: “We confirm that a charge of assault with grievous body harm has been made. The suspect has not been arrested and the case is currently under investigation.”

The boy’s mother, Andrika Jacobs, says the family was only able to lay charges against the teenager who has been accused of handing the acid bomb to her son on Monday afternoon.

“It has been hectic our side having to be at the hospital 24/7. And with the news of my brother’s death, we were not able to go to the police station sooner.

“Something needs to be done about the situation as my son could have been dead.

“The teenage boy and his family have no remorse for what had happened.”
