A five-year-old Hanover Park girl was shot and is currently being treated in the Red Cross Children's Hospital for her injuries after she was caught in the crossfire last night (24 February). Philippi police spokesperson Captain Lance Goliath says the girl was shot at about 20:15. “A shooting occurred at 20:15 at Algoa Court, Hanover Park. The girl was playing outside when shots were fired. She was shot in her back by a stray bullet which exited from her stomach. The gunmen are unknown and still at large,” Goliath says. According to Goliath the girl was transported to Heideveld Emergency Centre to be stabilised and was then taken to Red Cross Children’s Hospital for further medical attention.A case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation.Station commander Dennis Abels has urged the community to come forward with information.
