Eight children were injured in Fairways on Thursday (9 February) when a bakkie collided with a light motor vehicle.

According to a report by ER24 paramedics, the incident occurred on the corners of 9th Avenue and Sutton Road.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says on arrival paramedics found both vehicles had already been moved to the side of the road.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found that 15 children had been on the back of the bakkie at the time of the collision. The children had [then] taken refuge in a nearby house. Paramedics assessed the children, aged between eight and 10, and found that eight had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported on the scene.”

The children's injuries were treated, whereafter they were transported to Retreat Day Hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
