The Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Bergvliet joins its fellow congregants from across the world in celebrating the annual International Food Fair fundraising event on Friday 26 October from 17:30.The church has reportedly been running the fair for over 10 years and Wanika Davids of the church says it has over the years proven to be a success. She says the fair unites the community while creating a fun relaxed night for families. “The event has always been very well supported by the parishioners and local communities and we are optimistic that 2018 will be no different. It creates a great opportunity for a night off cooking duty for the family. It is very important to the parish for both the social interaction and the positive energy it builds among the stall teams and the general parish membership. We are catering for approximately 1000 family units.”She says the funds raised will be spread across a variety of needs and will support the daily sandwich programme for the homeless. It will also help with improvements to their places of worship and support their outreach programmes.“Our various ministries do additional fundraising for the poor, local and global evangelisation, and our caring ministries of counselling, family support and the Saint Vincent de Paul group who help those in need. If there is a little extra left over we hope to start saving for the repainting of the exterior of the church in a few years’ time,” Davids explains. She says the fair is run on a food ticket voucher basis, mostly pre-purchased in the build-up or bought on the night. There will be a variety of local and international cuisine sold in 15 different stalls, with an average meal costing R30. Patrons are promised live local entertainment, games and a children’s zone.V For more information on the fair, call the parish office on 021 712 2210.
