The Kensington Baptist Church will be hosting a health awareness fun walk on Saturday 3 March at 10:00 with the aim of raising funds while also giving back to the community.

The 5km family walk will start and end at the church and will cater to people of all ages.

Pastor Sergio Louw says they expect about 400 people to participate and they are currently in negotiations with various stakeholders to ensure the success and safety of this initiative.

He says that although the church does need funds, they mainly want to engage with and support the people while promote a healthy lifestyle and uniting the community.

“We are not doing this specifically for our members.

“We want everyone to come out and meet their neighbours while sharing the same goal, which we hope will not end on the day but carry on. Any sort of fitness and health-wise initiative can change the lives of many people and it should be something we are promoting as community stakeholders,” says Louw.

He says the money raised will be used to expand the infrastructure of their church and alleviate the plight of the poor in the local area.

One of the church members, Trevor Isaac Meisenheimer, says the idea has received huge support.

“It is well documented that sporting events can harness and enhance the spirit of oneness in broken community relationships,” he says.

Entry to the walk costs R30 per person.
