St Agnes Catholic Church in Woodstock held their first round of auditions for their brand new talent show. This audition phase saw young and old from around Cape Town battling their way to the second round. This is reportedly the first competition of its kind to be hosted by a Catholic church in the City.Founder Octavio Henriques says the idea was inspired by the impact the Idols show has on young people, affording them an opportunity to show off their abilities with an opportunity for growth.Henriques says their aim is to unite the Catholic parishes and find talents within their church. He says that after hearing the remarks from church members about television talent shows, he wanted to offer them a similar platform. “The Catholic Church is a big church with many young talents we do not even know of. All these years we have limited ourselves to being members of the choir. There could be rappers, dancers and poets we do not even know of.”His assistant, Carolina Francisco, says there has been a positive response to the competition, with people up to the age of 63 having registered. Auditions will run until the end of April and audition winners will go through to the grand finale on Sunday 3 June. One contestant will walk away with the grand prize of R25 000, with R15 000 going to them personally and R10 000 going to their church or Catholic school.
