Due to maintenance to substations at the Civic Centre, the City’s customer care offices will be closed on Saturday 28 January.

According to a statement issued by the City, this will affect services such as motor vehicle registrations.

Mayco member for finance, Johan van der Merwe, says critical maintenance is required on seven substations within the building and the City will conduct a number of controlled power shutdowns over weekends.

During the shutdown period, access to the Civic Centre will be strictly controlled.

“As a result, the Civic Centre customer care office will be closed on 28 January. We thank our motorists and other residents in advance for their understanding. The shutdowns will ensure that essential maintenance takes place, which will ensure continuity of supply, safety and legal compliance.”

The City has requested that motorists check the expiration date on their current disc and also to renew discs online if possible.

“It must be noted that an online licence application takes approximately 14 working days from the date of application to receiving it in the post. Motorists are required to scan their proof of address and identity documentation and to send it as an attachment if they choose to make an online application to renew their licence disc.”
