Seniors sat, mingled and the mood was jovial as they were congratulating one of their own for a milestone.Hosted on Thursday 25 July, Sunflower Seniors’ Club organised and held an 80th birthday celebration for one of their members, Rosemarie Andrews, at Verenigende Gereformeerde Kerk in Lentegeur. The mini-event was opened with a prayer and a delicious meal was served to seniors who ate and rejoiced.Andrews, who is married to Daniel Andrews, was born and grew up in Claremont and has been living in Lentegeur for the past 13 years. Her husband could not attend the celebration as he is sick. All he apparently said was a short happy birthday. She thanked fellow club members for organising the event. She said the event expressed an idiom of giving someone their flowers while they can still smell them.“I feel very happy and I am glad to be part of the club. I am a believer and I have been serving the Lord for 50 years,” she expressed.Andrews whose children are all married said the past 80 years taught her a lot of lessons. She added she passed all the vital lessons to her children.“My mother used to always tell me to be not rude to the people. She used to tell me to be kind all the time,” she added.Joining in to congratulate their fellow club member was Sharon Brown and Charles Wessels, Lentegeur and Colorado Park residents respectively. Brown described Andrews as someone with a sterling sense of style who always makes it a point to be neat.“She is a sophisticated, smart and very humble lady who loves the Lord,” described Brown. She revealed she has known Andrews for four years and added she has never had any problems with her in the club.“I want to wish God’s richest blessings on her journey. She must keep up the faith and smile,” said Brown.Wessels could not agree more with Brown. He wished Andrews well and said it is a blessing for anyone to go beyond 75.“She is a woman of strength who is very loyal and God-fearing. The Lord has given her years of grace. May she continue to do what she has been doing, which is to honour God,” evangelised Wessels.
