A young musician is making huge strides towards achieving his goals in the music industry.

Shiraaj Andrews, known as BrunoRaaj, has been working on his career since he was given a second chance at life following a tragic accident (“At home on stage”, People’s Post, 24 January 2017) and recently had one of his collaborations playlisted on DSTV music channel Trace Urban. He has his eyes set on joining forces with season 13 Idols winner Paxton Fielies for his latest song.

“The year 2018 started reasonably well for me and with that I received notification from Trace that my music video for ‘How Bout Now?’ alongside Ally B is on their database and online platforms and still being considered for playlisting on the charts, with the online views in the thousands on YouTube,” says Andrews.

He has also recorded two new collaboration singles, one with Cape Town hip-hop artists Blunt Magic and Leigh Jay and the other with Johannesburg-based artist Superstar Ace.

“I met Blunt in studio when I was still recording ‘How Bout Now?’. He was the sound engineer and we exchanged contact details and stayed in touch. A few months later he wanted me to jump on a record with him. The understanding and energy between us was positive and I have learnt that your artwork and material can be so much better when gaining advice from the next artist,” he says.

“Superstar Ace was my next collaboration and project, which was the biggest thus far because he is a mainstream artist who has worked with stars such as Davido, DJ Maphorisa and Anatii. He saw my work on Instagram and started following me. We exchanged contact details and he hooked me up with a beat and wanted me to slot in a verse and a few adjustments. We had to send our material back and forth via email because he is situated in Johannesburg. What I’ve learnt working with Ace is that you need to be serious and professional at all times.”

He has also recently written a solo single, but has enlisted the help of another breakout star.

“For my next collaboration I have my sights set on SA Idols season 13 winner Paxton Fielies who agreed to put in some work with me, but that will only be possible in 2019. We connected on social media and I am looking forward to working with her. She is quite the professional now and I am sure we will learn a lot from each other. I wrote and composed the solo single and when I realised a female vocal would complement the song better, I spoke to Paxton and she agreed to put in some work. Hopefully these will receive a lot of airplay once playlisted on the radio stations,” he says.

His song “How Bout Now?” is a record and music video inspired by his personal experiences

“It is based on someone you would like to start a relationship with but that person is indecisive, giving the cold shoulder but also tempted to commit, so you constantly ask ‘how about now?’ The record dropped on Friday 11 August last year and was written by myself and Ally B,” he says.

The video was shot over three days and was released on Wednesday 29 November. “[The video] can be viewed on YouTube and the Trace Urban online platforms. The second chance in life I was given and sacrifices I have had to make are my motivation to carry on striving for the top of the music industry,” he says.

“To my followers out there I would like to thank you for the love and support. Keep it coming and I hope I inspire you all, not just musically but to become better individuals and strive for happiness, peace and unity.” V For bookings or information, email Andrews at brunoraaj@gmail.com or visit his social media platforms: Facebook @Shiraaj Bruno Raaj Andrews or Instagram @brunoraaj.
