Help a local non-profit organisation collect 10 000 pairs of shoes for disadvantaged children in Woodstock and surrounding communities.

The Youth Redemption organisation was founded in 2015 with the aim to collect and donate shoes to deserving orphanages, schools, shelters and other organisations as well as individuals in Woodstock.

At its first handover last year the organisation managed to donate 1700 pairs.

That was when the organisers realised there was a need to do more and decided to raise their target to 10 000.

This year the handover is planned for July.

Through an ongoing project called Kick Game Grind, the organisers are planning a clean-up day schedule in June that will see participants also donating shoes.

One of the organisation’s founders, Dylan Cairns, says they are currently in talks with sponsors about the event.

“We are urging young people, sponsors, investors and celebrities to hop on board and help us create more awareness about this community project,” he says.

They collect all ranges of shoes for children and adults, both men and women.

Lawrence House in Woodstock is one of the identified beneficiaries this year. Its manager, Romina Meneghetti, says they were happy to get a call, telling them about their selection and asking details about the children. She says the centre has 22 needy children who would love to get pairs of shoes.V For more information contact Youth Redemption on 082 6111 640.
