If you are looking for great comedy with a world class line-up right on your doorstep, then look no further than the Mitchell’s Plain Comedy Festival.

With the line-up already confirmed and the venue booked, it is all systems go for the first event. Guests can expect to laugh with six comedians, with five of the performers born and bred in Mitchell’s Plain.

People’s Post is the official print media partner of the event.

Taking place at Spine Road High School on Thursday 15 December from 20:00, guests can look forward to great comedic talent for one night only, all on one stage.

The acts will take the stage and keep the audience entertained with material created for the community and inspired by the community.

“There are many guys who come from Mitchell’s Plain who are doing well in comedy and who should be known by the community,” says comedian Kenwyn Davids.

“We need to break the perception that international acts are better than local acts.”

His hope is to create a series of events that promotes nightlife in Mitchell’s Plain and that celebrates the heritage and culture of the area, and this event is the first he is planning.

The artists have all had major successes on the comedy scene, including performances at the Baxter and on Comedy Central.

Davids and fellow comedian Justin Stoffels, also known as Justin Ray, started their careers at the Chilli Bar, and Stoffels had a short stint abroad.?

“I have died on stage, but I just kept going. That high that you get when you kill your set just keeps you going back,” Davids says.

Stoffels says his love for comedy stems from the fact that it is like therapy.

The six comedians all look forward to putting on a world-class show.

“Most comedians know that Mitchell’s Plain is the best crowd,” says Stoffels.

Davids agrees: “People come from all over to perform in Mitchell’s Plain.”

The content of the different performances will be relatable and based on concepts that hit home with residents.

Catch Stoffels and Davids on stage with Marc Lottering, Mel Jones, Kurt Schoonraad and Lunga Tshuka.

The show will seat 1100 people. Tickets are available at Computicket for R150 each.
