A Grassy Park family helped to arrest one of four suspects last weekend after the family were the victims of an armed robbery at their home.

Grassy Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says the suspect was arrested after a house robbery last Saturday.

“According to the victim, who owns a business, they were busy counting the money at their residence, when she noticed a few men on the premises pointing at her one worker with a firearm. She also noticed another one [standing] by another worker.

“The suspect demanded cellphones and the money to be put in the bag he was holding.

“An undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones were taken,” Kleinsmith says.

She says the victims complied and the suspects fled the scene.

“In the meantime, a family member who passed by saw a man outside the premises, in a Mercedes Benz with tinted windows. It looked suspicious to him and he asked for backup as he followed the suspects in the direction of Schaapkraal, Philippi.

“The suspect was forced to stop when the vehicle hit the gravel and collided with a wall in Schaapkraal Road. The suspect fled on foot and the community pursued the suspect,” Kleinsmith says.

A 33-year-old man was arrested.

The other three hijacked a white Golf and fled in it.

The three remaining suspects are still at large.
