“Lock him up and throw away the key.”

These words were repeatedly chanted outside the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court as a 25-year-old man appeared for the murder of a six-year-old Eastridge girl.

The man made a court appearance on Wednesday last week, facing charges of rape and murder.

The court then also heard that the man was wanted on other unrelated charges, including a murder case.

He is believed to have been in a relationship with the girl’s mother.

The child’s body was found on Sunday 24 June, buried in a shallow grave near the suspect’s Wendy house. This occurred only a few hours after she had been reported missing.

Following the discovery, angry residents torched the main house with petrol bombs (“Girl (6) found in shallow grave”, People’s Post, 26 June).

The man will remain in police custody until his bail application, set for Tuesday 24 July.
