Residents have come out in support of a local community initiative to see a change brought to Mitchell’s Plain, enabled by the power of prayer.

In their recent prayer service, held on Saturday, The Community Prayer Movement gathered at the Shalom Gospel Church in Tafelsig for their inter-denominational prayer service with local pastors, choirs and residents joining in.

“Thank you to all Pastors who attended as well as Evangelist Enrico Davids for the blessed word of God. Also to Shalom Gospel Church for availing their church for the service,” says Ursula Peters, founder of the organisation.

Peters could not be there due to health reasons but arranged the event.

Larochelle Muller also motivated the residents with her inspiring story of overcoming a life of abuse, drug addiction and prostitution.

She further thanked Emanuel Worship Centre in Woodlands Band for assisting in the music on the day.

The Community Prayer Movement is an organisation that was established following a spate of rapes, killings and unrest in Mitchell’s Plain.

The initiative saw the group moving to different parts of Mitchell’s Plain, including Eastridge and Beacon Valley.

The movement is also supported by local police.

In a previous article (“Prayer walk the ‘solution’”, People’s Post, 19 September 2017), police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams said they are fortunate to have partnered with the initiative since its inception.

Williams adds that the area is one of the hotspots for shootings and crime.

“We want to see this [initiative] grow and snowball and we want more churches to get involved or start their own initiatives,” Williams said.
