The Strandfontein safety structures are working on your safety. The Community Police Forum, neighbourhood watch, Scorpion Security and Strandfontein police conduct regular bus stop patrols throughout the areas of Strandfontein, San Remo and Bayview. With it being dark and misty most mornings, residents feel unsafe when standing and waiting for public transport. With this in mind the volunteers and security officers collectivelyhave joint patrols so as to have more visible policing during the peak commuting times, says Sandy Schuter-Jacobs, CPF chairperson.“Our volunteers have offered their time before work to assist while Strandfontein police and Scorpion Security continue until the morning rush hour is over. Thereafter, the patrols continue, but with police on foot patrols,” says Schuter-Jacobs.“Engaging with the residents later in the afternoon and I’ve received several WhatsApp messages and emails, from residents, all echoing the same thing, asking me to convey their messages of thanks to the role players and volunteers that sacrifice a hour before they go to work, just to do bus stop patrols.”The structures have issued the following safety precausions:. Know what time your bus arrives, and try to wait only a few minutes before it arrives.. Don’t standing in isolation, instead stand with other commuters. Be vigilant and stay off your cellphone. Rather check that when inside the bus.. If you notice your street lights are off, sms 31220.. Remember to report suspicious activity to the police.“Community safety isn’t only the street committees, neighbourhood watch and CPF responsibility, it’s the responsibility of everyone. If you’re home and if you’re able to stand just for one hour every morning at your closest bus stop, it would make a huge difference,” she says. V Call the Strandfontein Police on 021 370 1500/01.
