A man has been arrested for attempted murder after attacking a police officer last week.

On Saturday 29 April, tactical response team officers were on patrol in Eagle Street, Rocklands when they saw two men in the street.

They were conducting stop-and-searches in the area at about 22:40.

When the two men saw the officers, one of them fled the scene.

Police gave chase and a scuffle ensued between an officer and the man.

The officer was wounded in his left hand and right upper leg.

The 33-year-old man sustained injuries to both his arms and had a gunshot wound on his right eyebrow. He was arrested.

A black .38 Special firearm with two live rounds and one empty cartridge were found lying on the ground next to the man and were confiscated.

The injured police officer and man were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.

The independent police investigative directorate (Ipid) was contacted and the incident was reported to it.

V Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer, detective Sergeant Randal Davids of the Mitchell’s Plain serious and violent crimes unit, on 082 777 8076.
