Cop shop gets cameras

2019-05-07 06:00

Diep River Community Policing Forum (CPF) is appealing for help to raise funds to install cameras at the Diep River Police Station.

The cameras will watch over three buildings in the station and it will also watch the area around the station.

They need R10 000 to kickstart this project.

Fiona Schwimmbacher, CPFs secretary and communications coordinator, says the cameras will help them jack up security around the station.

“The idea is to keep the police officers as well as the community safe when they come to the station. Also part of that is to have proof in case something happens,” she says.

Schwimmbacher says there is no particular incident or complaint, but they are just doing their part to ensure safety for everyone.

“This will help us should someone not be happy with the service at the police station. If someone complains, we will have the proof that we need as the cameras will help us,” she says.

The CPF has started the ball rolling to raise the funds with a raffle draw. They currently have R2000 in the pocket and they still want more.

They are calling on companies or individuals that are willing to help them reach their target.

Any small donation is appreciated.

“Any amount will help us. We will look at other ways to bring in the money but we also need all the help. We will be doing various fundraisers to help us raise the money,” she says.

Schwimmbacher says the sooner they get the money the better.

“We are aware that it is a process to get the money but we would love to have this project running by September. If that can happen a little bit quicker, it will be good for the community and the police officers as well,” she says.

Diep River police spokesperson Constable Zak Marais says he can’t comment much on the issue, however, the cameras will safeguard the assets of the station, police officers as well as the community
