Six police officers were commended for their service on Monday 4 March for foiling a possible cash-in-transit and business robbery plan in November last year.

The six officers, Sergeant Kotzé, Sergeant Mentoor, Sergeant White, Sergeant Kolbe, Constable George and Constable Adriaanse, are from the Crime Prevention Operation (CPO) and the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU). They arrested three suspects for the possession of a stolen vehicle, the possession of a prohibited firearm, the possession of an unlicensed firearm and the possession of ammunition at Gunner Circle, Epping.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula honoured the officers with certificates as an acknowledgment for their good work.

Captain A van der Berg, acting station commissioner at Pinelands Police Station says: “Police complaints vehicle reacted to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle moving from outside the Cape Town Market to outside Golden Harvest when they were approached by security at the market. The complaints vehicle noticed the suspicious BMW standing on an open field opposite Golden Harvest on Gunner Circle, Epping I and when the CPU arrived, the officers approached the BMW.”

Van der Berg says the driver of the BMW started to reverse but the suspects were instructed to get out and lay on the ground. “Police recovered two firearms loaded with ammunition in the possession of the suspects. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen during a house robbery in Muizenberg during 2017.”
