A policing cluster operation held with officers of different departments was determined a success as several people were arrested.

Diep River police spokesperson Sergeant Amanda Gordon says the operations had 14 police officers, 15 Traffic Services officers, 40, Law Enforcement officers, 64 neighbourhood watch members and 18 officers of private security companies.

They combed Mowbray, Rondebosch, Diep River and Kirstenhof.

Gordon says 32 warrants were executed by Traffic Services, six traffic arrests were made, 13 warnings were given and one person was arrested for possession of drugs in Mowbray.

Another person was arrested for possession of drugs and a firearm – a 9mm Taurus with eight live rounds – in Diep River. The firearm was confiscated after the owner could not produce a valid firearm licence.

“A total of 187 MaxID checks were performed during the operation. This is the system to verify if a person has a warrant of arrest on his name.

“Three people were positively identified as wanted on the system and were detained at Diep River Police Station. One suspect was wanted on a charge of stock theft, the second suspect was wanted on a charge of possession of stolen property and the third was wanted on a charge of theft,” she says.

Gordon adds that the operation was a success.

“The visibility of the officers was a deterrent for would-be criminals to commit a crime.

“Our office wishes to pass on our gratitude to all officers, reservists and external partners, such as neighbour watches, Law Enforcement, Traffic and security providers for their contribution and dedication in the fight against crime. Criminal activities will not be tolerated,” she says.
