Steenberg Police Station commander, Colonel Jan Alexander, says residents must be warned that keeping drugs on their premises will not be tolerated and they will be dealt with according to the law.

Alexander said this after the police precinct continued the fight against people dealing with drugs in the area in the form of a major drug bust on Monday 8 January at a house in Steenberg.

Steenberg police spokesperson, Warrant Officer John Bartlett, says police officers confiscated mandrax tablets and made an arrest.

“Officers of the Operation Combat Unit followed up on information about drug peddling at a house in Flora Road, Steenberg. After searching the premises they found 9451 mandrax tablets. A 31-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs,” says Bartlett.

“At the same time and at the same residence, a 37-year-old man from Coniston Park was also arrested for the possession of four mandrax tablets. The first suspect was transferred to another station and he will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is charged. The second suspect appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday.

“Various other suspects were arrested for drug-related offences, and drugs were confiscated,” says Bartlett.

On the same day, Steenberg detectives held a tracing operation and arrested suspects for theft, assault common, contravention of a protection order, possession of stolen property, and assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

“The community is encouraged to report all illegal activities in the precinct,” he says.

V Anyone with information about illegal activities is asked to contact Steenberg police on 021 702 9000. All information will be treated as confidential.
