Cops find guns, ammo on 7 men

Mitchell’s Plain police arrested seven men between the ages of 18 and 39 for gun and ammunition possession between Sunday 19 and Thursday 23 November.

. In the most recent incident, police arrested a 29-year-old man on Thursday 23 November at 02:40. Officers were on patrol in Cathkin Street, Tafelsig when they saw a suspicious man whom they searched. They found a CZ 9mm pistol and a magazine with 14 live bullets in his ­possession.

. Police arrested an 18-year-old man on Tuesday 21 November just before 13:00 during crime prevention patrols in AZ Berman Drive, Beacon Valley. The man was stopped and searched and police found one 9mm bullet in his possession.

. A 28-year-old man was arrested at the Kapteinsklip train station on Monday 20 November at 23:45. A security officer was on duty when he heard a noise and went to investigate. When guards searched the area they found a suspect sleeping. On searching the man they found a shot gun round. The man was handed over to police and arrested.

. Police patrolling Botha Street, East­ridge arrested a 34-year-old man on Monday 20 November at 15:00. The man ran when he saw the police van. Officers caught and searched the man and found 22 bullets in his possession.

. Police confiscated 28 bullets found in the possession of a 27-year-old man in Peugeot Street, Beacon Valley on Sunday 19 November at 19:00. The bullets are of mixed calibre. The man did have a valid gun licence but did not have the permit for the specific calibre of bullets, so the police confiscated them.

. In an unrelated matter, in the same street, a 39-year-old man was found in possession of 92 bullets of different calibres, a gun and two magazines on Sunday 19 November. Officers were on patrol when they saw the man and searched him.

. Police also confiscated a 9mm Beretta pistol, a magazine and 14 bullets while on patrol in Compassberg Street, Tafelsig on Sunday 19 November at 16:15. The 30-year-old man ran when he saw police. After catching him, he was searched and the prohibited items were confiscated.
