A 49-year-old man was arrested at SA Metal scrapyard on the corner of Wetton and Plantation roads on Monday 6 November at 10:40 for the possession of presumed stolen property.

According to reports, 13 rolls of Eskom copper cables, weighing 735kg and estimated to have a street value of R55 000, were confiscated.

The man from Lingelethu in Malmesbury was detained at Lansdowne Police Station.

The arrest was made after the man arrived at the scrapyard and the metal theft unit of the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement was asked to come and verify the cables. The man did not give the officers a satisfactory answer on where he had gotten the cables.
