Cops look for robbers

2017-02-07 06:01

Police are seeking information on an armed robbery in Gatesville on Tuesday.

According to Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman, five men are sought for robbing a cycle store in Klipfontein Road.

Norman says the five men walked into the store in which the store owner and his employee were alone.

“One of the adult men posed as an interested customer and started chatting to the shopkeeper. One of the other men pulled out a firearm. Once the firearm was pulled out it scared the shop owner and the woman [employee],” says Norman.

The robbers took cash to the value of R1500, two cellphones and a bicycle which was in the shop for repair.

Norman adds that no arrests have been made and that the shop owner and his employee were shaken up after the incident.

“We need more information as these men are unknown. What we need from the public is if they witnessed anything at that particular time to provide information to detective Constable Keith Poggenpoel,” says Norman.

V Anyone with information on the robbery can call detective Constable Keith Poggenpoel on 021 697 9205.
