A couple from Ottery wants to show their care for children beyond the Cape Flats is a year-long effort.

For the past four years, Marjorie Kaylor and Cecil Burgher have been honouring the memory of a friend who mentored the children of seasonal farmworkers in Ceres by hosting yearly Christmas parties for them.

Now they’re stepping up their effort with an appeal for warm school clothes to help 105 children in need.

“Making Christmas special for these children has always been special,” says Kaylor.

“Now we are adding to that love be showing that there are people who care about them throughout the year.

“The chills of winter are upon us and while many of us like to drive to this area when the snow arrives, the reality for these children is that they face this chilling weather without shoes or other suitable clothes to keep them warm.”

Burgher says he has even bought a new trailer and wants help to see the trailer filled with clothes for the children.

“I am hoping that friends, family and supporters will help me fill it with clothes for them,” he says.

“If you have gently worn items like shoes, jerseys, trousers and dresses we will even collect it if you don’t have transport.

“We want these children to know that there are people beyond Ceres who care about their welfare.”

The couple aim to deliver the clothes by the end of this month.
