Course to improve skills and build community

2019-07-09 06:00

There is still space for interested community members to enrol for a Madrassah Teacher Training course.

Madrassah is a registered non-profit organisation and a community centre that offers a wide range of courses for youth and residents.

Some of the courses are intensely Islamic based, while others are ideal for anyone from any religion. Among others, the courses offer skills in fundraising as well as in social media.

According to Abdurahman May, principal at Madrassah Tul Madina in Beacon Valley, he has been an employee at the Madrassah since its inception in 2010. He says they have different, qualified and experienced facilitators who offer the courses. He urges people to apply. “A person needs to have finished matric and wants to assist to develop the community,” he said.

May says as the means of ploughing back to the community, some of the graduates are now facilitators. They will be part of the training team in the upcoming course which he says is a pilot project.

According to him, the centre seeks to fight the ills of the community and bring change.

“This is our way of contributing to the community, fighting poverty, gangsterism and drugs,” he added.

The course is free. The organisation will take care of the training staff and it is due to take place between Monday 5 and Thursday 29 August between 08:30 to 12:30.
