CPF demands harsh actions

The Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) condemns the violence against women and children and especially the sexual assault on lesbians in the area.

“It is a sad day when children, influenced by gangsterism and drugs, take it upon themselves to sexually assault a lesbian woman. Rape is bad but even more reprehensible when 14-year-olds can sexually assault somebody because of her sexual orientation. All abuse of women must be condemned by our communities,” says Melvin Jonkers, chair of the CPF.

“The incident in Lotus River, where teenagers gang-raped and sodomised a lesbian woman brings into focus the stark reality of gangsterism as we believe the teenagers are alleged to be members of the Dog Pound gang,” says Jonkers.

The CPF calls on all those in the criminal justice system to deal harshly with these miscreants.

“The state should send out a clear message that abuse of our women and children will not be treated lightly. There should be no bail and no parole for people who commit sexual attacks on others. It must be clear to all that people have a right to unhindered expression of their sexual orientation. A society that respects human dignity will not tolerate such dastardly behaviour,” Jonkers says.

The CPF calls for the removal of the perpetrators from society.

“We call on the community in the greater Grassy Park area to report abusive behaviour. Parents are called upon to train their boys with respect for the dignity of others,” he says.
