Members of the Maitland Community Policing Forum (CPF) took time out to pamper fathers at the Ria Abel Home for the Aged in Brooklyn on Sunday 17 June.

“We gave them some presents for Father’s Day. We did the same for mothers on their day,” says project co-ordinator Brunelda Roman.

The members took their children to hand over the presents to the 27 fathers.

“These senior citizens raised us when we were small, when we grow old we need look after them. We involve our kids to teach them passion for helping and caring for others.

“There are lot of old people without children and our children need to help play that role on the special day,” says Roman.

From the home, the members headed for the local police station and gave fathers some presents.

Chairperson of the old age home, Basil Fester, praised the CPF members for their “generosity and kindness”.

“You are all amazing people. I know that you all contributed to making Father’s Day very special for all the men at our home. And so, on behalf of them all I would like to thank every member of the Maitland Policing Forum very specially,” says Fester.

He appreciates the affection – smiles, joy and sincerity – which brought the sunshine of God’s love into the home.

“And the most amazing thing of all is that you do it because you care, because you are all truly obedient to the word of God which says ‘love each other as I have loved you’.”

The CPF members say they intend to have more interactions with the home.
