A special Women’s Month operation yielded much success in the Mitchell’s Plain police precinct last week.

On Thursday 25 August between 09:00 and 14:00 officers made various arrests.

A total of 267 vehicles were stopped and fines to the value of R27 500 were issued.

A futher 17 people were stopped and searched. Two unlicensed premises were searched and a 56-year-old man was arrested for illegal dealing in liquor.

Three arrests were made after a tip-off, including a 29-year-old man for possession of dagga, a 22-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and a 25-year-old man for armed robbery.

On Thursday 25 August at 00:40, Mitchell’s Plain Police officers were on patrol when they pursued three men.

Offiers found the one in possession of a 9mm Z88 pistol with 16 live rounds.

The firearm’s serial number had been filed off.

The man was arrested.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, officers noticed two suspicious men running away when they spotted the police van.

After a pursuit, officers caught the men with six live rounds of ammunition and an imitation firearm.

One of the men was arrested for possession of ammunition without a permit.
