Ward 75 councillor Joan Woodman has fulfilled the allocation set out by her predecessor.

Woodman handed out play equipment and toys to 15 early childhood development (ECD) centres from the ward in the Northwood hall on Friday last week.

“[Former councillor Michael Pietersen] allocated R40 000 for ECD centres. We could have bought lots of tables and chairs but we consulted the people who work with the children to assess the need,” says Woodman.

Each crèche received play equipment, including puzzles, toy cars and play dough.

Vision Kidz, Villas Tiny Todds, Mamma’s Creche, Thank You Educare, Little Green Dolphins, Asheeqahs Babies – Orion, Humpty and Dumpty, Little Sunflower, Lion King, Tiny Treasures, Chippendale, Bundles of Joy, Madrassah-tul-hidaayah Educare, Precious Pearls and Little Angels were selected based on specific criteria to receive the equipment and toys.

Woodman urged ECD owners to register with the subcouncil in order to benefit from the ward allocation budget and other initiatives.

“There are only five ECDs registered on the database and we want you all to register with the subcouncil,” she said.

Some of the benefits of registration include printing, funding and projects.

Registering is free and the only documents required are a copy of the centre’s constitution, list of the executive members and copies of ID documents.
