V Beacon Valley: Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a 24-year-old man for possession of drugs in the early hours of Saturday 16 June. The officers received information that drugs were being stored at a house in Kennetjie Street and officers investigated. At about 00:32 the officers visited and searched the house and found 244 heroin straws and 8 small packets of tik. The drugs were confiscated and the man was arrested. The drugs has an estimated street value of R7 500.

V Tafelsig: Mitchell’s Plain police reservists arrested two men on Sunday 10 June at 01:20 while performing crime prevention duties in Cathkin Street. The officers spotted two suspicious-looking men who jumped over a fence when they saw police. The officers pursued and found the two men lying in the grass. They searched them and found a Norinco firearm without a serial number, containing a magazine loaded with nine 9mm bullets, lying next to them. Police arrested the two men, aged 24 and 20 years. They face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition. The suspected gang members are expected to appear in court shortly.

The officers were executing search warrants when they visited a house at 11:30 where they found two abandoned Chinese Roulette gambling machines. No-one has been arrested and the investigation continues.

V Tafelsig: Mitchell’s Plain deputy cluster commander, Brigadier Mmagauta Letsoalo, in partnership with Public Order Police, executed an operation in the Mitchell’s Plain area on Wednesday 6 June from 13:50. Officers were on patrol as part of the operation when they received a tipoff that drugs were being sold at a house in Francis Street. On searching the house, officers found a number of plastic bags containing money. The money confiscated totalled more than R147 000. Police also confiscated three live 9mm bullets, 286.7g of heroin and 64.8g of Mandrax. Police also confiscated an unknown substance which was sent away for analysis. A 53-year-old man was arrested and faces charges of drug dealing and possession of ammunition.
