V Tafelsig: Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a 41-year-old man on Saturday 30 June at 22:10 while on patrol. Officers were tipped off about drugs being kept at a premises in Bakenskop Street and went to investigate. On searching the property, police found drugs and ammunition hidden in a cupboard. They seized a total of 1940 Mandrax tablets, a container with four live 9mm bullets and R1846 in cash.

V Westridge: On Saturday 30 June at 18:30, Mitchell’s Plain police were busy with crime prevention duties in Biendonne Street when they saw a man who was acting suspiciously. The officers stopped and searched the man. During the search, police officers found 20 straws of heroin and 66 mandrax tablets in his possession. The 35-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs.

V Tafelsig: Four suspects were caught red-handed with stolen property in Tafelberg Street on Wednesday 27 June. Officers received information about stolen property being stored at a house in Brandwag Street and when they arrived at the home, were informed that the suspects were not home. Officers then did a vehicle patrol and noticed four men pushing a wheelie bin near the corner of Stella and Tafelberg streets. When police stopped the men and searched the bin, they discovered several power tools. The suspects are aged between 35 and 43. Police confiscated 11 power tools, two cellphones, two flat irons, a hairdryer, nine clamps, a cordless microphone and a handsaw. The stolen goods are worth an estimated R10 000. The suspects face a charge of possession of stolen property.

V Harmony Village: Officers attached to the Lentegeur police crime prevention unit followed up on information received and obtained a search warrant for a house in Rainbow Street on Monday 25 June at 20:00. The house was searched and officers found 2.2kg of tik hidden in a cupboard, with an estimated street value of R450 000. A 37-year-old woman was arrested and faces charges of dealing in or possession of drugs.

V Tafelsig: On Sunday 24 June at 23:10 Mitchell’s Plain police received a complaint of a shooting at a house in Kamiesberg Street. Police found a 26-year-old man had been shot in the head and was declared dead on the scene. The second victim, a 41-year-old woman, had been shot in the back and leg and later died at hospital. It is alleged the victims had been on their way out when they were approached by gangsters who started shooting at them and fled the scene. A double murder case is under investigation.

V Eastridge: Police confiscated a 9mm handgun on Sunday 24 June at 08:45 when Mitchell’s Plain police received a call about a firearm being kept at a home in Palestrina Street. Officers searched the house and found the gun containing a magazine loaded with 13 bullets. Two boys, both aged 17, were arrested.
