V Grassy Park: Police in the Mitchell’s Plain police cluster arrested 589 suspects for various crimes last week. According to Grassy Park police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith, 209 suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes, while 45 houses were searched for drugs. “These drugs include crystal meth, also known as tik; heroin; mandrax and dagga,” she says.

V Grassy Park: Several shooting incidents were reported to the Mitchell’s Plain police cluster last week. As a result, 15 firearms with ammunition were confiscated, while 29 suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Other suspects were also arrested on warrants of arrest for various crimes during tracing operations. Police are also engaging with the neighbourhood watches whilst patrolling in their respective areas. Street and court committees are actively involved in the ongoing fight against crime.

V Eagle Park: Grassy Park police have confirmed that Darren Ainsley Bull was sentenced to an effective 10 years in prison for the murder of Shiraaz Adams from Eagle Park. Bull was found guilty of stabbing Adams to death on 18 December 2015 after an alleged argument. “The thorough investigation of crime and the bringing of perpetrators before court are crucial in the efforts of Grassy Park police to ensure convictions. This was proven once more during investigation by Detective Sergeant Sicelo Bongashe, when he arrested a suspect and brought him before court,” says police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith.

V Parkwood: Police officers from Maitland’s Flying Squad thwarted hijacking attempts when they tracked down three suspects in Grassy Park last week. Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith, says the patrolling officers picked up the tracker signal of a white Chevrolet Spark, allegedly hijacked by three men, in Parkwood. The vehicle with five men was retrieved in Cuckoo Crescent. The suspects, aged between 18 and 27, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
