V Rondebosch: Police arrested four suspects, between the ages of 30 and 50, for carjacking an Uber vehicle at Laaiplek on Friday 31 August at 23:50. The vehicle was recovered at the time of the arrest and the suspects appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 5 September. The suspects allegedly called an Uber in Cape Town and asked to be taken to Rondebosch. Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam, spokesperson for Rondebosch Police Station, says: “When they got to Campground Road in Rondebosch one of the suspects pulled out a knife and instructed the driver to cooperate with them. They took his two cellphones and his watch. They pulled the driver to the back seat and drove around with him before dropping him on the N7 near Edgemead.”

V Rondebosch: Police are calling on Uber drivers to be vigilant when doing late call-outs and to be careful when sudden changes are made to destinations. This follows an incident in which an Uber driver was hijacked at the corner of Milner and Sandown roads in Rondebosch after dropping off a customer at about 01:00 on Wednesday 5 September. According to Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam, spokesperson for Rondebosch Police Station, a white vehicle blocked the victim and three armed men approached and instructed him to get in the back seat and then drove away. Sisam says the suspects searched the victim and took his two cellphones and cash and dropped him in Lansdowne and disappeared with the car. He says police are still looking for the suspects.
