V Plumstead: Diep River police arrested five suspects, aged 18 to 31, on charges of housebreaking, theft and possession of stolen property on Friday 14 September. The arrest followed a tipoff about a “suspicious” white sedan driving slowly down Trent Road in Plumstead. According to police, the suspects were spotted by a neighbourhood watch patroller shortly after reports of an alleged housebreaking in the area. Spokesperson Constable Zak Marais says police received help from local Law Enforcement. “Diep River Saps would like to express their gratitude to those neighbourhood watch patrollers, security service providers and Law Enforcement agencies that continuously assist SAPS in its endeavours to bring those perpetrators to book.”

V Plumstead: Two suspects, aged 37 and 46, were arrested at a local shopping mall in Gabriel Road on Monday 17 September. The suspects were found to be in possession of food and clothing items from nearby shopping centres. Police say the suspects could not account for the items nor produce proof of purchase. They have apparently been linked to an alleged syndicate of thieves using a dark grey sedan to commit crimes in both the northern and southern suburbs. “The suspects would then, whilst one is doing general shopping, either steal personal belongings from the consumers or goods from the respective store and leave without payment, whilst the other pushed the trolley and kept a lookout for cameras and security guards,” explains Marais.
